How do I take it?

What if I miss a dose?
A missed dose can generally be taken within 5 days. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take your next dose on your regular day. Follow your provider’s instructions.
How is it different from tirzepatide?
Semaglutide acts on one appetite hormone (GLP-1). Tirzepatide acts on two (GLP-1 and GIP). Your provider can help you decide which fits you.
Is compounded semaglutide FDA-approved?
No. Compounded medications are prepared by licensed pharmacies but are not reviewed or approved by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality.

Important safety information
In studies in rodents, semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is not known whether it causes these tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in people. Do not use it if you or a family member has had MTC, or if you have MEN 2. Tell your provider right away about a lump or swelling in your neck, trouble swallowing, hoarseness or shortness of breath.
Serious side effects can include
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
- Gallbladder problems, including gallstones
- Low blood sugar, especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea
- Kidney problems, which dehydration can worsen
- Serious allergic reactions
- Vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, headache, fatigue and injection-site reactions. These often ease over time.
Before you start
Tell your provider about all your conditions and medications. Do not use semaglutide if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and stop at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
